Inspiration and practical tips for runners who prioritize enjoyment over pace and embrace their place as an “average” runner

In her first book, popular runner blogger Amanda Brooks lays out the path to finding greater fulfillment in running for those who consider themselves “middle of the pack runners” — they’re not trying to win Boston (or even qualify for Boston); they just want to get strong and stay injury-free so they can continue to enjoy running.

Run to the Finish is not your typical running book. While it is filled with useful strategic training advice throughout, at its core, it is about embracing your place in the middle of the pack with humor and learning to love the run you’ve got without comparing yourself to other runners. Mixing practical advice like understanding the discomfort vs. pain, the mental side of running, and movements to treat the most common injuries with more playful elements such as “Favorite hilarious marathon signs” and “Weird Thoughts We all Have at the Start Line,” Brooks is the down-to-earth, inspiring guide for everyone who wants to be happier with their run.

Amanda's book is equal parts humor, tough love, and sound advice for middle of the pack runners. She had my full attention from the first page of the introduction and now that I've finished reading it I want more! (fingers crossed) Run to the Finish is not a book that you read once and then forget about on your bookshelf. It will surely be a resource that I refer to for years to come for dynamic stretches, training plans, and general advice so I can continue doing what I love until I'm old and gray (Team BQ by 80!). I loved this book and haven't come across another like it. Do yourself a favor and buy a copy for yourself and your best running friendo while you're at it :)

I am a new runner and have struggled with the label of runner, the how to, the motivation, and the understanding of how to do it and avoid injury. I am not a "self help" reader but I began following Amanda Brooks on Instagram and she was real. She seemed to understand where I was and where I was wanting to go. I have no idea if I'll ever run a marathon and it does not matter. She teaches you how to just get out and run. NO MATTER YOUR PACE! I picked up this book last week and today I ran the furthest I have ever run, 4 miles. This book is a great read. Its helpful, funny, motivational and best of all you kind of feel like you have a silent army behind you.

I have followed Amanda on Instagram for a while and love her style of writing from her social media posts as well as her blog so picking up her book was a no brainer for me. I love her writing style as I feel like sometimes she is inside my head helping me correct the negative self-talk and making me realize I don't have to be fast to be a real runner. Her practical approach to how she views the issues, most if not all, runners have is great. I have highlighted key exercises that need to be built into my routine to make me a better runner and in just a few weeks I am already starting to see the difference. By the time I finished the book I felt like I had made friends with Amanda and now have practical tools to help me continue to enjoy my running and strengthen my body to be a healthier runner.
