Since shortly after its original release in 2008, Olympic Weightlifting: A Complete Guide for Athletes & Coaches has been the most popular book on the sport of weightlifting in the world and has become the standard text for learning and teaching the snatch and clean & jerk.

This all new third edition has been expanded over 150 pages with revised and improved chapters, new chapters, improved organization, more tables and diagrams, over 600 photographs, improved readability, and improved reference functionality with an index, glossary and expanded table of contents.

The book presents a complete progression for athletes and coaches starting with foundational elements such as breath control and trunk stabilization, squatting, balance and weight distribution, warming-up, individual variation; working to complete learning and teaching progressions for the snatch, clean and jerk; covering training program design extensively, including assessment for recruiting and new lifters, and 16 sample training programs; technical error correction, supplemental exercises, nutrition, bodyweight manipulation, and mobility; and a thorough section on competition to prepare both lifters and coaches.

I bought this book in a silly attempt to "teach myself" how to weighlift. I was not disappointed. Greg goes over the lifts extremely well, and he has a great progression for learning them. He warns the new lifter to not read the super in depth description chapter of each lift. Now that I've been at it for a little while, I appreciate this. Those sections make a ton of sense now and definitely would not have at first. He also includes getting ready for a competition and programming. All in all a great purchase as a new lifter!

While its true there is no official standard for American weightlifting, this is the best place to start. So many great coaches started with this material so you might as well do the same. While I'm sure Greg is a very intelligent man, he's not trying to prove it with unnecessary details in the text. This book is well written and easy to understand, for coaches and athletes of all levels. If you're a weightlifting coach, planning to become one, or an athlete looking to take your sport to the next level, I can't recommend this book enough.

This book is a must have for atheletes, coaches and trainers. Besides learning the obvious Olympic technique on point; it's imperative to understanding basic foundational movements from setup to finish. Everyone squats and lifts items from the floor; it doesn't matter if you're not lifting at the gym, what he teaches is vital to prevent injuries in those daily functional moves. When you're ready to advance to the power moves, you will be flexible, agile and strong. He teaches even the novice how to program design, but also encourages seeking out a coach with a trained eye. I go to this books regularly to inspire my lifts and help me understand how I can cue the various population I work with. If we are considered healthy by being able to lift 55lbs off the floor, then it's vital learning HOW!
